Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
I have been using Pale Moon for quite a while now on my Acer Aspire Windows 10 laptop. I am having trouble with the browser because it will not play videos in Twitter for instance. When you click on the video it says this browser does not support video playback. I remember that it used to be able to play videos a while ago. I did recently upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 in July. I hope this problem can be fixed because right now I am forced to use Microsoft Edge each time I go to Twitter. But today this also occurred in my Facebook news feed. Grateful for any help in this matter.
Re: Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
This is an issue for me too and another user, see here: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9598. But as for Facebook, I don't know, works fine for me.
With Pale Moon by my side, surfing the web is quite enjoyable and takes my headaches away!

Re: Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
My problem: I have version 25.7.3 (x64) on a relatively clean windows 10 install. Switched to Pale Moon this summer after getting sick of Mozilla and its issues. Was generally good for a while...
I did remove flash entirely from Mozilla/Palemoon, but not from chrome/IE.
Recent problem: Youtube, twitter, vines etc. will play H264 using HTML5 for a while. However, after an hour or so, usually less, they just won't render anymore and the youtube spinning dots just keep spinning on and on. If I restart the browser, it will be ok again. But the funny thing is it's only the H264 that dies. On this test page: http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html WebM and OggTheora will still play.
Any thoughts?
I wish Pale Moon had a way to restart the rendering engine(s) independently from the browser. So I could just leave all my tabs up, and have them go blank until I click on them again.

Re: Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
Interesting. The sfc /scannow trick seems to have fixed it. Which is odd because I've been very careful not to download any fringe media packs onto that machine. The only external video playing software I've installed was VLC. Oh well.

Re: Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
For what it's worth, I've been having the same issue.
I don't have a Twitter account, and only visit Twitter when it's linked to from somewhere else, though, so it wasn't an important enough issue for me personally to file a bug in regard to. I'm not big on social networking. But I can verify that the behavior that the original poster on the thread described is occurring for others (Namely, me) and not just for him on- at least on the 2-3 occasions I clicked on a link to a Twitter video in Pale Moon in recent memory. I'll occasionally read a sports thing and it'll link to something such-and-such reporter posted on Twitter, and that's where I run into it. For me, it's such a fringe use case, that it doesn't really bother me, but Twitter is a pretty popular site, and if one really into it, I can see how this bug could really effect one's experience negatively.

I am also getting the "This browser does not support video playback" message in Twitter using Palemoon 26.1.1 on Linux 32 bit.
But I can play videos in Face Book.

Try running PM with add-ons disabled or using a "clean" profile.ka9yhd wrote:Updated to Palemoon 26.2.0 and still getting the message on Twitter "This browser does not support video playback"
I have no problem with embedded Twitter videos on PM 26.2.0 (x86) on Windows 7 (x64), all I need to do is just click on the video and they play through their cycle.

Try setting the UAO preference "general.useragent.override.youtube.com" to "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:36.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/36.0 (Pale Moon)" if you haven't already.

Re: Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
If you right click on the gif/video, select This Frame then View Frame Info, and click on the Media tab, does the gif/video play there?
For example, this one doesn't play while viewing my entire feed: https://twitter.com/BrunoBaratheon/status/718463660423802881
But if I click on the individual tweet to bring it up in its own window, it plays fine. If I view it via the method mentioned above it plays fine. And if I copy the source url for the file itself and load that in a new tab it plays fine.
And here is the video codec info for this one:
General
Complete name : C:\temp\Cfh-4WcWQAIkwTH.mp4
Format : MPEG-4
Format profile : Base Media / Version 2
Codec ID : mp42 (mp42/mp41/isom)
File size : 109 KiB
IsTruncated : Yes
I restarted in Safe Mode and everything acted in the same way.

Re: Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
In my case at first as long as I clicked on the video quick enough (4-5 seconds) after loading the page the video will play and continue to cycle until I stop it. But at first if I did not click on the video within the 4-5 seconds the video would go black and unresponsive. But if I refreshed the page then I get another opportunity to click on the video once again and so on. Once I've clicked on the video once I can stop/start the video as much as I want and it works as expected from then on. And at first this same thing occurs each time I load the page.eskaton023 wrote:If you right click on the gif/video, select This Frame then View Frame Info, and click on the Media tab, does the gif/video play there?

So I don't need to do any of the other procedures to play the video as long as clicked on it quick enough.
The reason I said "at first" (above) is because I noticed I was blocking a request on the page which was to allow google-analytics.com (which by default I always block). After allowing this request the video plays just fine and continues to be available to play at any time so the 4-5 second window no longer applies the page works as expected. I also found that if I once again block google-analytics.com the video continues to play as expected and still remains available to do so at any time on all page loads from then on so it would appear whatever occurs by unblocking and then blocking once again google-analytics.com at least for me fixes all issues regarding this Twitter video. So just to be clear from that point for all page loads the video would work as expected, no problems of any kind.
It would clearly appear that playing videos on Twitter, while they will work for me it nonetheless can be a bit sketchy doing so.

I'm on Palemoon 26.50.0 and Win10. Using the above test page at quirksmode.org, I can play WebM and Ogg/Theora, but the H.264/MP4 starts then the sound stops after a couple of seconds.
I've run the scannow /sfc but that changes nothing. I have Flash player installed and disabled all script-blockers and such like.
I can view Youtube, but Twitter videos will not show up. Well, the initial picture appears, turning quickly to a black box with "The media could not be played" in it.
If I use the suggestion to look at the actual media element, it shows up as .m3u8. I can download this file, but VLC will not play it. I wonder if it would play if VLC was not set as the default media player for that type. However, in the Default Apps settings of Win10, it is not possible to change back from VLC. The only other option is to look in the App Store for a program, so that'll change nothing.
Could it be VLC? Usually bullet-proof.
Very frustrating, so any help other than "Use Explorer/Chrome" would be great. Thanks.

Re: Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
As it's been said many times, Twitter is doing something they shouldn't be and embedding a non-video file within the <video> tag.

Re: Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
I would say: code it so that PM will play non-video files in a <video> tag. Other browsers magically seem to know how to handle this, it is really painful to have to open FF every time I see this message and load the page anew so I can watch the video.
Of course, you can be principal about it. But you can also just make it so it works and PM users will have a good experience using the browser. Because I hope you realise that this does not make people want to use PM.

Re: Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
v27 implements MSE which is one of the 2 things that Twitter still wants to support (the other being Apple's "HLS" which is the playlist nonsense).
This means that videos will play again in Twitter, unless Twitter decides only to feed the browser a playlist. That should bring it up to Firefox level which also has the same issue (and there's an open BMO bug about it that I'm keeping an eye on).

Re: Videos won't play in Twitter in Pale Moon
I'll put it here, maybe it is the same kind of problem. There is a video on http://www.autoweek.nl/video/tesla-mode ... okje-rond/ that fails to even load the player in PM. In FF there is no problem. Videos are hosted on Kijk.nl that say most of their code is HTML5 but uses Flash for the viewport.
Is this the same kind of problem that will be fixed in PM27?
