[Solved] Making Pale Moon 64 default browser W8

and have tried everything to make PM 64 the default browser. It seems that W8 sees Pale Moon as Mozilla and won't allow me to set it as the default browser instead of Firefox.

That did it! Thank you again. That tool allowed me to untick the boxes associated with Firefox and to then tick them for Pale Moon. The Windows 8 control panel, for some reason, wouldn't let me untick the Firefox boxes.

Unfortunately the settings didn't 'stick'. After I saved them, Firefox once again became the default program to open HTML etc.

From I can see, Windows 8 doesn't seem to be able to see the difference between Firefox and Pale Moon. All it sees is 'Mozilla Corp'

These are the current settings for Pale Moon:



and these are the ones for Firefox:



I can neither tick them nor untick them to change the settings for either browser.

I am logged in as 'administrator'.

Maybe you have the option "make firefox as standard web browser" enabled in the firefox settings?

The solution is so often a simply one, isn't it?

Yes, in Firefox options I unchecked 'default browser' and did the reverse in Pale Moon and PM is now the default browser.
