Import Bookmark Problem

Post by greenoak28 » 2012-11-08, 18:19

Ver. 15.2.1 -64 just installed on computer running Win8. Favorites from IE 10 won't import completely. Folders show but contents are empty. Import function from organize menu doesn't solve problem. Also, an bookmark export file from Firefox (32 bit Vista) will not import. The file is selected but there is no button or command visible to proceed with import.

I tried an complete uninstall but the downloaded command won't run even as administrator.

Never used Win 8 or IE 10.... but this problem sadly not that uncommon with previous Windows OS/IE combinations: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/quest ... wer-199801 and http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questi ... wer-346318 are recent similar examples? If you are trying to import large and/or multiple layered Favorites lists from IE and have problems it seems the recommended solution is to export your IE Favorites to an HTML file and then import that file into the Pale Moon Bookmarks Manager... or is this what you have already tried and this fails because "The file is selected but there is no button or command visible to proceed with import" as you say above?

Additionally this method should preserve any sorting that you may have done in IE with the Favorites. This mozillaZine article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks has "To export your IE Favorites to a file" instructions in "From Internet Explorer" paragraph.

Hope this works for you with new Win 8/IE 10 combination and also Pale Moon 15.3 update has just been released! :)

PS. My own preferred "why bother importing" option using Alex Sirota's PlainOldFavorites Add-on is sadly not compatible with recent Mozilla 64-bit browsers see: http://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1466

Pale Moon was recommended for newer computers so I tried it with my i5 and Win 8. The install apparently recognized IE 10 and asked to import bookmarks. The favorites in IE 10 were imported from Firefox on my old Vista 32 bit computer. I had the html file from the Firefox export and this is the file that wouldn't import to Pale Moon. I haven't tried exporting the IE 10 favorites to a file for import in Pale Moon.

The uninstall didn't work from the downloaded files but did work from the program files installed on the C: drive. I will wait until the site/forum information states the browser works in 64 bit Win 8.
