Viewing PDFs in the browser?
Any suggestions on how to view PDFs in the browser window? Specifically in Palemoon 15 64-bit.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
I will try the X64, but you can go to the URL bar and type "about:config" without quotes.
In about:config, type in "pdf" and find "pdfjs.disabled" make it false by double-clicking on the string name. (No quotation symbols)

gpdf http://blog.arpitnext.com/gpdf Works for me in PM64.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
Good alternative, and it is not contradicting at all, since the user still sees the document in the browser. My option was as a built-in, rather "plug-in"-like alternative. Then again, the first time the internal PDF reader showed up it was as an add-on.sIDcORK wrote:gpdf http://blog.arpitnext.com/gpdf Works for me in PM64.
Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
The internal PDF reader (pdf.js) is not recommended, even if the code is present in the Pale Moon browser. There are a number of known issues with it. Use it at your own peril.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
I'm using SumatraPDF as my PDF reader which ships with a browser plugin too. Officially there's only a 32-bit build of it but you can find nightly 64-bit builds here, which are the ones I use; or a 64-bit build of the current stable version here.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
I thought the code is removed completely in PM 15 release notes? never thought it's still there..
and so.. I'm trying to turn pdfjs.disabled to false, but what does it do?
still can't view pdf in browser, whether it's true or false. Unless I use the original pdf.js addon..
I prefer use my standalone reader, but sometimes, in a rare case, Foxit becomes not responding for a while when opening a file. I just thought I want an alternative.

Then take a look at SumatraPDF. This is faster then Foxit and runs all the time, without any problems.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
It's installed in Pale Moon, but completely disabled so it doesn't take resources. For emergencies it's still available, because it is simply convenient if you don't have access to a proper reader.vayth wrote:I thought the code is removed completely in PM 15 release notes? never thought it's still there..

You have to set pdfjs.disabled to false and set pdfjs.firstRun to true, then exit and restart the browser.
(note, the firstRun preference will automatically be reset to false upon restart, it's an initialization flag)
You can then select the preferred viewer from the "applications" category, if it's not already set.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
I use http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer for 64 bit (despite the look on the web page, it's actually free). It has a Firefox Plugin that works with Palemoon too. But IMHO, it's not 'lightweight'. But it is feature-rich.sIDcORK wrote:gpdf http://blog.arpitnext.com/gpdf Works for me in PM64.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
I used to have the habit of watching PDF's within the browser (Firefox then) in the past... it has only caused me problems (crashes, slowdowns etc.). Sumatra PDF is extremely fast and works perfectly.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
I noticed Pale Moon (I'm on PM x86 atm) will not fully display this page, which seems to contain an embedded Google docs/pdf document window. Is this normal behaviour? Also tried switching both aforementioned about:config options. IE displays it correctly (I don't have PDF applications/plugins on this PC, except for Sumatra PDF).

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
Works fine for me - it's an embedded Google-supplied PDF viewer (probably based on the javascript version) unrelated to anything you may have installed locally.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
I get an empty box (all add-ons disabled). I'll check with the security software again...

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
In other news, Adobe had released Acrobat 11.0 but I really don't want to "upgrade" and I'll stick to 9.5.2 until I see how it goes with the new group of security flaws and bugs. I would like to use another reader but so far only Acrobat seems to handle digital signatures (create, modify, delete) which is one thing not found in other suites.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
Strange, I can't get it to work on my x86 PC. Uninstalled security software, disabled add-ons and installed Java just in case. PM64 displays it fine.Moonchild wrote:Works fine for me - it's an embedded Google-supplied PDF viewer (probably based on the javascript version) unrelated to anything you may have installed locally.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
Yes, I meant the safemode ("all add-ons disabled"). Maybe this thing looks for something from Adobe installed? Can't think of something else.dark_moon wrote:Do you try the safemode?
update: it now works, probably security-software related issue.

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
Hi, I think my PM64 does not open PDF files. I'm using 20.2.1 version.
I have Adobe installed, but I prefer to open it directly on my browser. I put pdfjs.disabled to false, but it doesn't open my PDF. What can I do?

Re: Viewing PDFs in the browser?
Set pdfjs.disabled to false, set pdfjs.firstRun to true, then completely exit and restart Pale Moon.
Potentially, you may also have to check "applications" in Pale Moon's preferences to make sure the PDF files are set to "preview in Pale Moon"
be aware that the internal PDF viewer is extremely limited and very much hit&miss as far as being able to render files goes. No support is given by me on actual features or lack thereof of the js viewer.
