Screw ups with new JWPlayer
Many sites have moved to JWPlayer videos that cannot be played on PaleMoon.
One of them is www.ebaumsworld.com where all old videos based on flash could be played fine but now with the switch to JWPlayer are impossible to watch.
I contacted ebaums highlighting the problem and "they submitted the problem to tech support" and then clearly disappeared. They told me that they went to HTML5 instead of flash but I don't believe that to be the problem since I watch youtube videos in HTML5 without problems.
For me the problem lies in JWPlayer itself but there is no way to bypass it and the videos underneath, that can be downloaded fine, are definitely not the problem.
Any suggestion will be welcome.
Thanks

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
Hello pdicocco.
I'm able to watch HTML5 videos on ebaumsworld through its JW Player v7.4.2 without issue (Win7 x86, PM 26.3.3).
Just watched these:
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/videos/the-most-badass-boat-launch-ever-attempted/85069576/
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/videos/watch-what-happens-when-a-pro-mountain-biker-rides-a-walmart-bike/85069461/
What happens for you when you try to play videos on this site?

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
Your version of Pale Moon is quite old, and there have since been some improvements to its ability to play HTML5 -- not to mention security updates. Please update to the current version and try again.pdicocco wrote:Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Palemoon Version: 25.7.2 (x64)...
x64 which you use is here:

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
@pdicocco, both HTML5/JWPlayer and Flash works for me. But I noticed that at first while using the HTML5/JWPlayer, I was blocking media elements through my adblocker (uBlock Origin) which prevented me from playing the video ("Error loading media: File could not be played"). So are by any chance have an adblocker/scriptblocker enabled?
With Pale Moon by my side, surfing the web is quite enjoyable and takes my headaches away!

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
LimboSlam, you hit it. I had just doublechecked using Portable PM 25.7.2, it played the videos with no trouble. (using ABL, not blocking media elements by category.) Was just about to post this, saw yours. Pdicocco, this should nail it.

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
Thanks guys
I tried disabling AdBlock Latitude 3.3.1 but there was no difference and got the same results, some videos can play while some others cannot. The ones that play are Flash videos, the ones that don't are "powered by JWPlayer" whatever that means, if you download them are regular MP4 videos that play fine under windows with any video player.
Tomorrow I will try to install the latest version of Palemoon to see if this problem goes away nonetheless before this problem wasn't there but it came out with JWP.

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
This seems to be a Windows only issue. Trying the site the OP listed with JWPlayer plays all JWPlayer videos with no issues using Pale Moon x64 Linux with ABL enabled or disabled.

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
Tried installing latest version of Palemoon to no avail, still getting file impossible to play. I think of some sort of incompatibility with JWPlayer since before I did not have any problems but I doubt it is windows fault.

Videos based on flash player are fine the ones based on JW (or powered by JW) are screwed up. Cannot figure out what is upsetting the system or the player.

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
@pdicocco --
Based on LimboSlam's post where the error message he got was identical to yours, it seems probable something is blocking media content from loading in JWPlayer. It's a question of what. (And fyi, I use ABL with multiple filters and it posed no problem for me on that site.)
Would you please do two things --
1. Copy your Troubleshooting information (Help -> Troubleshooting Information) and post it here inside 'Hide' tags;
2. Try the site with a clean, new completely virgin profile:
Run command -> palemoon -no-remote -p to bring up the ProfileManager and create new profile.

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
Tried disabling ALL plug-ins and got same results.
Where is "hide" tags?
If I start with a new profile how do I revert back to the old one without losing my settings and isn't it the same as disabling all plug-ins?

'Hide' tags are used for long blocks of text. There's a BBCode button for this with the others, top of the posting box. The tags look like this:
Code: Select all
[hide]your text[/hide]No it isn't.pdicocco wrote:Tried disabling ALL plug-ins and got same results. ... and isn't it [testing with new profile] the same as disabling all plug-ins?
By plugins did you mean your extensions...? (Plugins are things like Flash Player, Java, QuickTime, Silverlight...)
Extensions often set preferences and these remain set when the extension is disabled. Don't know if you turned them each off by hand or used Safe Mode (which does somewhat more), but you might read this MZ knowledge base article on Safe Mode which explains what is turned off.
A new profile is a complete clean slate with new, unmodified 'everything'. You can use the ProfileManager to create a new test profile without affecting your default profile, and when you're finished testing you can use the ProfileManager again to delete the test profile.
If you want to backup your default profile first (always a good idea) use the Pale Moon Backup Tool: http://www.palemoon.org/backuptool.shtml.
There's also a good tutorial on safe mode and profile creation: http://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=8240. Please read all of it before you start (and take note of this comment about using -no-remote. IMO, it's a very good idea to use it.)
Or --
If you prefer -- test using Pale Moon Portable, downloadable here: http://www.palemoon.org/palemoon-portable.shtml.
It contains its own profile and won't touch the profile of your installed version. Before using it please read the sticky at the top of the Pale Moon Portable support board: 'Some advanced options', and in particular scroll down to the section called: "If you want to use Pale Moon portable to test".

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
Tried disabling all extensions, tried in safe mode, tried with portable and all gave same results with "file could not be loaded" icon. In the end it is not a big deal since I can download the videos and play them locally and then delte them but now I am just curious and the company that makes JWP did not respond. I wonder if JWPlayer is just incompatible with my OS.
Couldn't sites use MPC-HC, SPlayer or SMPlayer or even VLC for their sites which all work?

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
One way to test this idea would be to try the site with another browser. If the same problem occurs with a current release of Firefox or Chrome it would tend to support that explanation. If you'd prefer to not *install* another browser, portable Firefox can be found here.pdicocco wrote:I wonder if JWPlayer is just incompatible with my OS.
But here's another thought...
There was a thread on JW Player's support site that touched on WS 2008 -- sort of. You can read it here:
https://support.jwplayer.com/customer/portal/questions/15966780-windows-7-error-loading-media-file-could-not-be-played-jw-player-7-1.
Not definitive, but it suggests that JWP 7 needs to fallback to Flash Player on WS 2008. You might double-check whether NoWay or Flashblock, which you use, aren't interfering with the fallback here.
And just as a footnote...
JW Player's support site has a troubleshooting page with a test video and other help under the heading "I'm having problems viewing a video".

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
Tried palemoon portable and it did not work on that either. I have "youtube Flash video player" which allows you to select either HTML5 or Flash videos to be downloaded but it still doesn't work in either way. Also disabling everything does not work.
Maybe it wants IE, trying Chrome just to see if it works but I don't want to keep it.
Unfortunately the message is quite criptic so it is difficult do diagnose.
Well I give up I will download the videos I want to see and that's it.
In any case it is a lousy setup they could have used a different player.
Thanks guys for your help.

This is a link to a thread on JWP support page where I posted the same question.
I am having trouble making them understand the problem.

Re: Screw ups with new JWPlayer
For everybody's info
I cannot see ebaumsworld videos powered by JWP but I can see the ones based on Flash
but I can see the JWP powered videos at PBS like http://www.pbs.org/video/2365118580/ just fine
Since my system is the same I believe this to be a problem of the web sites loading the videos incorrectly. Unfortunately I cannot get the support people at JWP to understand this and they think I am trying to load my own video on my own web page, I don't know if using a different language would help.

I was able to play your linked video using Pale Moon 26.3.3 (Win 7, x86). It loaded HTML5 by default. The player was a bit temperamental and I had to click around a few times and try reloading the tab, but it did play.
Grayhoose, what specifically happens for you when it "doesn't work"?
What is your OS, what version of PM is installed, and do you have Flash Player installed and enabled?
EDIT: Cookies do not affect whether this video plays -- although it appeared so when above post was written.
