[Solved] Run two instances of portable simultaneously

Unread post by pollo » 2015-01-20, 08:29

First, Let me say how much I love Pale Moon.
With the recent changes to other major browsers, it is refreshing to see one that has logical settings and puts users needs upfront.

I read a few posts on the forum but still can't run two instances of Palemoon-portable simultaneously.

Here's what I did to try:
Created 2 different profiles under
C:\Portable\Palemoon\User\Palemoon\Profiles
One is named A, the other B.
(OS: Win7 x64, Palemoon-portable x64)

created a user.ini file under C:\Portable\Palemoon
and uncommented MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1

Changed Profile=Default to Profile=A

Created 2 shortcuts:
C:\Portable\Palemoon\Palemoon-Portable.exe -p A -no-remote
C:\Portable\Palemoon\Palemoon-Portable.exe -p B -no-remote

Ran the first shortcut: it opens the browser as expected.
Run the 2nd: got an error message:

Code: Select all

Pale Moon is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Pale Moon process, or restart your system.

Can you help?

The portable is not designed to run that way. If you want to open multiple copies concurrently, make sure to have multiple copies of the portable browser, each with MOZ_NO_REMOTE uncommented in the .ini, then start each one as normal.
Improving Mozilla code: You know you're on the right track with code changes when you spend the majority of your time deleting code.
