Perm freezes after logo.

Unread post by taosk8r » 2017-11-01, 20:45

Seems like this same issue:
viewtopic.php?t=7957

I had this problem in waterfox as well.

It is a new installation, so no addons. I killed all my AV/firewall/security before installing to eliminate the possibility of some UPX issue.

I am actually wondering if, like the fresh install I did from a zip of the non portable version, it might be loading addons from another profile. Is there a way to start it in 'safe mode' with a clean profile?

Operating system: Windows 8.1
Browser version: Palemoon-Portable-27.5.1.win64
32-bit or 64-bit?: 64

app is in task manager, but never opens.

Also, can the mods please wait to close this until there is actually a fix/resolution, please?

Also wondering if the portable can be released as a zip in case somehow it is some weird upx thing. I doubt it, because I even closed all my security in task manager, but I would still like to try it.

"never opens" = not the same issue as the one linked to.

Turing 'off' security software isn't necessarily going to stop any action by them, it might even prevent some useful dialogue. Better to do a full uninstall and enable the default firewall.

Try moving the Pale Moon Portable folder into your Desktop or Documents folder.

What does Reliability Reports show?

Now that I read closer, that is correct.

On the first install, I had everything on. Second install, I not only exited all the programs, I tracked down everything in my task manager related to them and killed the tasks.
Try moving the Pale Moon Portable folder into your Desktop or Documents folder.
Just tried, same issue.
What does Reliability Reports show?
Not sure on that one, what are they and how do I access them? Also answered questions in quotes, dont feel like fixing all the unquoting. Come to think of it, I think I had this issue with cyberfox as well..

When replying directly to the previous person there's no need to quote anything, it takes up excessive screen space and adds a layer of duplication.

If all three Mozilla-based programs have the same problem, it's more likely to be an issue on your side causing it than a Pale Moon issue.

IME, security software still has an impact even when turned off, only a full uninstall will reset the PC to it's previous state, even then, you should check Defender and the firewall to ensure they're updated and running.

Reliability Reports.

Anything logged by your security software or in the Windows logs, Applications?

Just checked through MWB, Comodo Firewall, Spyware Blaster.. Nothing. Kind of weird, since all my other installs in various locations still work just fine. I just wanted a nice clean one without all my usual extensions and tabs running in it so I could load it up quick for an occasional task that I don't trust IE for.

Is there some way to force it to load in 'safe mode' or with an empty profile?

Delete the contents of the "User" folder in the portable to remove the profile. starting the browser then will get you a fully blank slate.
