Addition of New Search Engine

Unread post by fatboy » 2021-01-22, 07:24

Good Day Folks,

I recently discovered a new search engine called https://private.sh/ and was wondering if it is possible to add this search engine to the Pale Moon Search Plugins (https://addons.palemoon.org/search-plugins/)?

Thank You,
Ferdi

Contact them and ask them to add Opensearch plugin support as described here, so that the plugin can be autodetected and added to PM. T̷h̷i̷s̷ ̷i̷s̷ ̷s̷o̷m̷e̷t̷h̷i̷n̷g̷ ̷t̷h̷e̷y̷ ̷a̷r̷e̷ ̷b̷e̷t̷t̷e̷r̷ ̷s̷u̷i̷t̷e̷d̷ ̷t̷o̷ ̷d̷o̷.̷

Edit - You can create your own search plugins here.

Another way could be to set it as your homepage.

How does that help, is one supposed to set homepage every time one wishes to use a different search engine when there's already an excellent search plugin system available?

It helps by being a temporary solution.
excellent search plugin system available.
If that were the case then this thread would vaporise in seconds.

The search plugin system has been around since the early days of Firefox, automatic detection of search engines on websites that are configured properly, a documented XML format to create your own as well as sites that allow you to create one on the fly, but sure, why bother when you can keep setting your homepage :coffee:

It seems this search engine has a few privacy holes, so don't think I will be using it.

I believe this one is run by the same folks who run Gigablast, which doesn't have great results as a search engine.

Feel free to elaborate on this claim -- I'd like to know what you found out in detail because they tout it as a fully private search engine.
