At the risk of sounding like a systemd hater, would you please explain why such a function will not be implemented? Perhaps it cannot, or it just doesn't interest you, or it would incur an unacceptable performance hit, or something. Anything!

This is more the case for an extension. There's already one to open a new private tab, for example.
