'store'(?) Search Engines(SEs) URL templates in about:config (for search customization [...?])

Unread post by usrSrchngKBOnlyBrwsr » 2018-02-05, 03:55

While googling "[firefox/]pale moon search engine url string "about" "config"", the best I got is
After reading the reply there, I tried to find how "search engines"(SEs) are implemented in FF/PM: i added a second SE next to my single/default (default-full list purged), and looked for the keyword in about:config: did not find it.

The reason I am looking for this is to circumvent google's country redirect (add &gws=rd=cr to a google search URL template). For the moment I can do this just fine from outside the browser (e.g. from the OS command bar) through keyword-launched URL template submission to 'a new instance' of the browser). However launching this from within the browser allows to chose whether to open it in new windows (Shift+Enter) or open it in a new tab (Ctrl+Enter).

Given my limited understanding of PM/FF/about:config/browsers/computer science, I suggest (hope) it is possible just to 'store' (?)/'access'(?) (somehow) the SEs URL templates in about:config and customize them from there...?

I hope this makes sense despite my not knowing too well /a bit too often metaphorically using the standard computer science lingo I guess... Going a bit off topic here: it is my belief that [power] browsing will become more and more the 'limiting factor' in human learning, and as such... power browsers must be usable entirely through 10 fingers for all fixed-screen-location/not-page-dependent-location actions (i.e.: usable without requiring the brain-intensive '1-finger' screen pointing for these actions).

It doesn't belong in about:config.

What you need to do to customize the keywords is go to the search bar drop-down, select "Manage Search Engines..." and use that dialog to set keywords.
If you want to change the actual URL of searchplugins, you have to edit the appropriate XML file to customize the searchplugin.
