Let's See... We've seen VRML, and we've seen it fail hard.
What is WebVR doing different? Right, you need a headset with a price tag starting at $800 to use it as opposed to the previous efforts to make a "3D Web"... and there's no content that is reasonably useful to view in a 3D web page (see VRML).
