Windows 98/ME support

Unread post by Computershik » 2017-05-29, 13:25

Hello!
Off-topic:
________________________________________________________________________________________________________START OF my offtopic :D
am a downgrader from Russia. I am also a system administrator in my university's library. I have installed Palemoon Atom on all our old computers (most with Windows XP, Intel Celeron, 2 Gb of RAM, one with Windows 7 and the same hardware as above and one with Windows XP, Intel Core Duo, 2 Gb RAM). I adore your browser, because it doesn't load the Celeron CPU up to 100% like other browsers.

My suggestion is:
Why don't create a port of Palemoon for even older Windows like 98/ME or at least 2000? If you can, then I will launch it on 98/ME using Kernel EX.

Sincerely yours,
Computershik (Computer Master in Russian :) )

:lol: .... um..

No. The code is simply not compatible with that generation of Windows OS.
If you want to try and make it happen, then be my guest, and the best of luck in your efforts, but we can't support 98/ME.

hi comrade! ;)
u can try K-Meleon
Системные требования

В целом аналогичны аналогичны таковым K-Meleon 75, при несколько повышенном потреблении памяти;
Системная архитектура Win NT: Windows XP SP3 и выше (возможен запуск на Windows XP SP2 и Windows 2000)
Браузер может работать на системе с 256Мб RAM (технически проверенный нижний предел составляет 192Мб; есть примеры запуска на 32Мб!);
оптимально - не менее 1Гб RAM;
120Мб на диске для работы; оптимально - 150-200Мб с учетом кэша;
Наличие в системе (или в папке программы) библиотек MS Visual C++ 2013 (msvcp120.dll, msvcr120.dll)

Al6us,
I have always thought that K-Meleon is a shell for Internet Explorer...
Well, I'll try it.

About Palemoon - Windows XP/Atom builds may run on Windows 2000, but I am not sure. If they do, then I'll try to continue my experiments.

Sorry for such a stupid question, but where can I find the source code?

Thanks all for help :)

It's in the web page menu on palemoon.org -- here's a direct link:

As said before if you want to try, be my guest. Anything that needs to be fixed will have to be done by you, since we don't support old kernels.

Pale Moon has never targeted 9x. There is no "last version" compatible with it.
As for kernelex: unknown, you'll just have to try.
