Downtime for hosting server upgrade

Unread post by Admin » 2012-05-24, 09:35

Our hosting provider has just informed us of the following:
We're pleased to inform you that we will begin upgrading your account,
and all associated subdomains, to a new hosting server within the next
48 hours.

This upgrade requires that we take your websites offline for a short
period of time to complete the transfer. Anticipated downtime is
between 1-2 hours; to help reduce the visibility of this outage, your
account will be moved during the early morning hours (MST).
Additionally, we will be required to change your website's IP address
This means a brief outage for the website, and after this has been completed, the forum will be taken off-line to propagate the new IP and transfer the database with any new posts in it to the new server a longer outage for the forum. Depending on the DNS propagation speed, this may take up to a day, during which time you won't be able to access the forums.

UPDATE: The forum will be taken off-line before the move to prevent having to transfer posts and attachments manually. It will be back up asap after the new server has been taken into use.
Did you know that moral outrage triggers the pleasure centers of the brain? It's unlikely you can actually get addicted to outrage, but there is plausible evidence that you can become strongly predisposed to it.
