Changing our release cadence

Unread post by Moonchild » 2025-05-31, 18:25

Sort of a service announcement to keep everyone informed.
We'll be changing our release cadence for development releases from an 8-week to a 12-week cycle going forward.
This means that any major release (e.g. 33.7.0) will typically get two point/security releases at 4-week intervals (e.g. 33.7.1 and 33.7.2) before getting another major/development release (e.g. 33.8.0).

I'm finding that this kind of slowdown allows us to more properly focus on feature implementations and gives us proper development/bake time to come to the best possible releases as we continue our development. The previous cadence was just a bit too fast and felt rather rushed, especially keeping in mind that our developers in general do not dedicate their full time to the project, so it will give more breathing room without an "imminent release around the corner" most of the time.
Our regular security updates will of course continue, to keep everyone safe; we're only changing how many cycles we do sec-only releases before a major development one is published again.
