Go here and install Justoffs classic addons archive 1.2.2 https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive/releases Search in the archive for "Settings Page Protection 1.0.3" . I have never tried this extension but it apparently adds password protection to the preferences page. Don't know if that will help you...

I assume your deleting cookies. By doing so you are deleting the DuckDuckGo settings cookies.
I have mine protected and my settings are retained.
The same is valid for Google search settings.

Maybe two searches, precede with,

*(space) for Bookmarks
^(space) for history

Don't know if they work in combination.

That's hilarious. Yeah 4.1.1 has way more options than I would ever need.

Only way I could think is in Preferences>Privacy tab>Location bar. Uncheck history and Tabs. I really see no reasion to search either and have had them unchecked for years now.

First you need to update to PM 28.2.1
Second Add to Search Bar 2.9 works well for me.
