beta.8ch.net not working in Palemoon

Postby CANADIAN PIG » Thu Jan 07, 2016 7:24 pm

Site is NSFW if you didn't already know.

I am on Palemoon 25.8.1 x64 using Linux Mint Cinnamon x64.

The site https://beta.8ch.net doesn't work on Palemoon. Other users are reporting this as well and it seems to be a Palemoon issue. https://beta.8ch.net/test/ can be used to see what doesn't work. Most elements on the site do no function (such as the options button and file uploader). The site works fine in other browsers.

Why is this occuring? Is there any way to fix it user-side?

The problem lies with 8ch's "new" design.
The admin/dev of the design has also displayed a very rude and plain hostile attitude (pretty much in line with the expected "chan" crowd bad apples) so I'm really not interested in giving them any sort of special treatment to work around their design choices.

What happens on Options? Clicking on it doesn't do anything?
I get this.

I'm using Palemoon 26 Beta5/RC, I'll check on 25.8.1. I'll Edit with the result.

Edit: Yes, it doesn't seem to work in 25.8.1.
Moonchild told you everything you need to know about the situation.

Sorry to hear about the issues with 8chan. I understand not rushing to change your browser to meet the demands of one site. Most of the users on the site are frustrated with the redesign.

A couple questions:

It is works on on PM 26 beta. What was added/changed in version 26 that allows the site to function?

When will version 26 be coming to general release?

Is the beta build available on linux? If so, where?

Moonchild would need to explain why it works on 26.
26 is ready really close to a release. :)
Yes, Moonchild has been releasing the version 26 Betas to the public. Note that they aren't suppose to be seen as "Stable and Ready," but they do behave very well.
As soon as a BETA is released we have trava90 create a Linux version, as soon as possible. :)

Not just one site. One site with an owner who identifies himself as an "internet vagabond" who sends me e-mail with "You suck" as a subject right off the bat and (excerpted from between more like this and cutting out the inappropriate obscenities) things like this:
josh@infinitydev.org wrote:Pale Moon ... your oafish, outdated, insecure pile of garbage ...

Stop. End your project. It is cancer.

And when simply pointing out shortcomings of his new design that makes it very much not browser-agnostic:
Yeah you can go fuck yourself I don't owe you shit. You're a 0% market share browser with an unfortunately high amount of influence on 8chan because Fredrick Brennan once vouched for you. Now, I have a bunch of stubborn spacks who refuse to switch off Pale Moon using the new software and complaining.

So you can imagine I really have no interest in changing my browser for THIS site in particular.

Switching to Goanna. :)

Thought you'd finds this update interesting because you've some bad blood with Josh: https://notehub.org/346di

tl;dr Josh scrapped the beta site because he made several mistakes. This is actually some of the only official communication the site has recieved on the migration, which is surprising considering the amount of time the migration has been taking place. Honestly, this is the first time I had heard an entire board was locked in favor of the beta site.

Also, Moonchild, I'd like to say thanks for actually being transparent with how your browser functions and speaking with the community. The experience I have had asking questions about Palemoon on this fourm versus asking questions on the boards dedicated to the development of Next and 8chan as a whole has been signifcantly different. I hope other developers/project managers can learn from your communication methods.

i bet he believes that palemoon is outdated because its major version number is lower than Firefox's.

No, he's just being an ass that heard a few things here or there, didn't care to check our site, formed an opinion and will not admit that he can make a mistake; especially not towards the person he's trolling and cussing out ;)
