palemoon portable crashes afeter a few minutes

Unread post by flopo » 2013-04-12, 10:00

hi

yesterday i updated to version 20. all ok but today palemoon started crashing few minutes after i am starting it. yesterday also i installed palemoon commander addon.

today i started palemoon with commander addon disabled, with all addons disabled, reverting to version 19.0.2 but the same thing happens.

i also unpacked palemoon portable in another folder to see if the same happens with a fresh one. it didn't.

cheers

Thanks for the report - seems you are running into the same (really strange) crash as mentioned in http://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2167 Breakpoint crash in mozalloc.dll

Maybe a comparison can be made between the two to see if there are any common things between your setups?

yes, i read it and looks similarly. differences i spotted at a quick glance is the time after palemoon crashes. for me is less than 5 minutes and is not silent. windows kicks asking me if i want to send the crash for investigation. but maybe the other person had windows notification stopped.

Doing some further research on both issues, I found a possible cause:
If you have the DirectX SDK installed it may be using a debug version of the DirectX libraries which may trip with this breakpoint error.
Since Pale Moon uses DirectX for its hardware acceleration, this could be the culprit?

i tried with that option not checked and palemoon had the same behaviour. before updating to palemoon 20 i had it active and no crash.
