Memory usage.
As I see, "Pale Moon" uses too much memory (almost all of it), in comparison with the "Microsoft Edge" for example (with opened multiple tabs on both browsers - 10 in "Pale Moon" and 24 in "Edge"). Please, do something about it.

Re: Memory usage.
If you're looking at what task manager tells you, then you should know that those numbers are inaccurate for any Microsoft browser (much lower than actual use).
That being said, we're more than happy to look at memory inflation issues, but you must give us the necessary details to do anything about such things.

It's interesting what you say. You mean that the task manager is completely inaccurate? How to compare these two browsers then? I'm a big and loyal fan of Pale Moon.Moonchild wrote:If you're looking at what task manager tells you, then you should know that those numbers are inaccurate for any Microsoft browser (much lower than actual use).

Re: Memory usage.
I followed your advice and still:dark_moon wrote:Use Process Explorer from Microsoft for true memory usage.
MS Edge - 24 opened tabs - 620 000 K Private Bytes, 480 000 K Working Set
Pale Moon - 8 opened tabs - 1 400 000 K Private Bytes, 770 000 K Working Set
Re: Memory usage.
Tabs are not Tabs. You have more memory usage with 2 flash tabs as with 2 normal tabs.
And the Microsoft browser use system internal stuff, so you have a much lower memory usage. Thats by design.
Even if you compare Pale Moon vs firefox, opera, .... You have different memory usage because of other engine and so on.
Memory is for usage!
But you can give us more system infos and you can try of course a clean profile to check if your profile make problems with memory.

Re: Memory usage.
Your Pale Moon figures look inflated, something else is at work there?
Add-ons, security software, 3rd party .dlls hooked in, ... a bad site (check about:memory)?
Are you using the x86 or x64 version of PM?
My W7 with PM 26.2.2 x64, 97 active tabs across 2 browser windows plus a number of inactive tabs, 73 hour uptime:

Re: Memory usage.
It would also depend on what sites you have opened on those tabs. For instance, I have one web site that if left by it's self will sometimes take as much as 2 gigs of ram depending on how many flash items and Youtube video's are loaded and how long it's left open. It's a news site that links to many many other sites and often shows many Youtube vid's.
A better example would be to use the same exact sites on both browsers and then see the difference's. But still you going to have a bit of better visual ram usage in Edge because of it being part of Windows.

Re: Memory usage.
Thanks for the answers, guys.
The situation is the same:
Pale Moon - 8 opened tabs - Gmail, Facebook, two online newspapers (with totally 3 flash banners on them), three photos and this forum. - CPU - 14,9-26,2% - Memory - 529 MB. (I reduced the plugins and add-ons to absolute minimum - 2 and 3)
MS Edge - 27 opened tabs - various web sites - CPU - 0% - Memory - 35,8 MB
This data is from the Task Manager, but as I said before, it's similar to Process Explorer's data. My computer is with Windows 10, installed RAM 4 GB (usable 3,84 GB), 64-bit operating system, Intel Core2 Duo CPU T6600 2,20 GHz.

Re: Memory usage.
Even with only one tab opened - this forum only - CPU - 17,5%, Memory - 280 MB.
It's still nearly ten times more resourceful than MS Edge with 27 opened tabs.

I'm nearly sure you're counting only ONE Edge process and not the others.newbie3 wrote:Even with only one tab opened - this forum only - CPU - 17,5%, Memory - 280 MB.

I think Edge with 27 tabs open can consume 35.8 MB in a parallel universe only.
Re: Memory usage.
What do you mean with this only one process? I count Edge as two windows opened, with 27 opened tabs on them totally. I'm telling you what I see.snertev wrote:

Re: Memory usage.
I think what snertev is trying to say is that there is simply no way that Edge is only using 35.8mb. It is simply not showing the other ram it is using becausenewbie3 wrote:What do you mean with this only one process? I count Edge as two windows opened, with 27 opened tabs on them totally. it is wrapped up in Windows 10 somewhere. So your simply not seeing the whole picture of Edge's memory usage.
The real question at this point is, what other process's are being utilized while Edge is being used.
Knowing M$ we may never know.
I'm not sure why you would be seeing such CPU usage (is this while sitting idle?) but the memory seems right.Even with only one tab opened - this forum only - CPU - 17,5%, Memory - 280 MB.
Here is a screen shot of Process Explorer showing my Pale Moon usage with only two Pale Moon forum tabs open.
Mind you though, I have a boat load of add on's so the memory usage on mine will be higher. But as you can see, my CPU is less than 2%
What add on's are you using. Have you tried this with a fresh profile or with add on's disabled?
I also noticed that this post is in the wrong part of the forums and needs to be moved.

Re: Memory usage.
The data from Process Explorer:
Pale Moon - 9 tabs opened
CPU usage (without any other activity) - 22-34%, 444 000 K Private Bytes, 439 000 K Working Set (add-ons disabled)
CPU usage - 15-27%, 830 000 K Private Bytes, 550 140 K Working Set (add-ons enabled)
MS Edge - 28 tabs opened - CPU usage - 3-4 %, 416 532 K Private Bytes, 300 744 K Working Set
Pale Moon's add-ons: Bookmark Current Tab Set 0.2.4.1, Fasterfox Lite 3.9.9, Forecastfox 2.2.5; plugins: Adobe Acrobat 15.16.20039.54196, Shockwave Flash 21.0.0.242.

Re: Memory usage.
BTW, I'm using the latest Process Explorer from Microsoft (version 16.12) and I can clearly see individual MS Edge processes when looking at this page of the forum:newbie3 wrote:The data from Process Explorer:

MicrosoftEdgeCP,exe CPU 3,77 PrivateBytes 194,800 K WorkingSet 229,064 K
(and a Flash util process that adds some more MB)
A fresh installation of Pale Moon x64 with no extension:
PaleMoon.exe CPU 0.04 PrivateBytes 181384 K WorkingSet 197988
(I've tried to reload the forum page in order to find a Flash Ad to test the Flash plugin process, but without success)
These results are normal in my experience, when analyzing mono- and multi-process with 1 tab open.
The RAM overhead of multiprocess browsers (Edge, Chrome, Firefox e10s) is a lot higher with many tabs open.
Re: Memory usage.
@snertev - what do you mean with this fresh installation? I have the latest version of "Pale Moon" - 26.2.2 (x86).
My version of Process Explorer is the same as yours - 16.12.

Re: Memory usage.
You clearly don't see how much memory Edge uses; Edge uses a lot, but you'll never know just by looking at the task manager. It's actually been this way since 1997 when W95 had a shell update that integrated IE4 into the OS; That's why for M$ browsers, the memory usage will always appear to be much lower than it really is.MildreEdgerly wrote:I agreed.newbie3 wrote:As I see, "Pale Moon" uses too much memory (almost all of it), in comparison with the "Microsoft Edge" for example (with opened multiple tabs on both browsers - 10 in "Pale Moon" and 24 in "Edge"). A new installation from scratch in a clean PC, without further additions.newbie3 wrote:@snertev - what do you mean with this fresh installation? I have the latest version of "Pale Moon" - 26.2.2 (x86).
My version of Process Explorer is the same as yours - 16.12.
I installed Pale Moon x64 because Edge is a 64 bit application and they tend to use more RAM than 32 bit ones.
Re: Memory usage.
@snertev - I don't think that a fresh installation will change anything. As I said, I use the latest version of the browser, with minimum add-ons and plugins.
@half-moon - I compared both with Process Explorer, if we can't trust Task Manager. Still "Pale Moon" uses much more memory with much less tabs opened.
