I click on a news feed, and it turns out to have a video. The video plays - I can HEAR THE AUDIO - but there is only a black box where the video should be.

Right now, I'm just throwing this out there. I just got out of bed a little while ago, gotta head off to work shortly. Tomorrow, I'll check back here, see if anyone knows what is going on. If not, then I'll start collecting the information needed to figure out what is happening.

guy@sparky:~$ uname -a
Linux sparky 4.0-2.dmz.2-liquorix-amd64 #1 ZEN SMP PREEMPT Debian 4.0-7 (2015-05-12) x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have flashplugin-nonfree and flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound both installed from the Jessie repositories.

Time flies - I gotta get out of here . . . Thanks in advance!

Well now - I'm home again. Example of a video that doesn't show video - http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/05 ... latestnews

1. I've reinstalled Adobe flash - no joy.

2. Checked to see if Firefox plays it normally - that does work as expected.

Googled the problem, and no real joy - found a discussion about cyanogen mods, where this problem occurs with a specific version of Flash. Seems a lot more people have problems with no sound, than have problems with no video.

Add ons? Let me try changing my themes, maybe one of those is doing it.

User styles.

https://userstyles.org/styles/13864/bla ... ompanion-i

Apparently, the "dark background" just covers up the video - ON SOME SITES. Youtube videos play just fine with the userstyle disabled.

Well - problem solved.
