palemoon -private != new private window

Unread post by access2godzilla » 2014-04-07, 09:14

Description:
The menu, menu button and title of PM are inconsistent, when private browsing is launched via the command line, as compared to when launched via the jumplist or "New private window" button.

Reproducing the bug:
(1)Start PM's private browsing window by typing palemoon -private in the command line.
(2)Also, start PM's private browsing window by using the jumplist or by invoking PM normally, then using "New private window"

Expected results:
The menu button and the menu look the same when launched in the above described manner.

Observed results:
A picture speaks more than a thousand words :)

The title is not shown here, but the title in case (1) is of normal browsing mode, whereas in case (2) it is of private browsing mode.

That's not a bug.

-private opens Pale moon in permanent private browsing mode (a different operating mode of the browser that does not display the "mask" or extra indicators like title but uses private browsing mode throughout), as opposed to -private-window which uses private window mode (same as jumplist/AppMenu) where the browser session itself is not in PB mode and extra indicators are needed to let you know which windows are private and which are not.
