Backward Navigation and Named Anchors

Unread post by pmBill » 2014-09-21, 09:08

I'm pretty sure this is a bug.

If you click on a named anchor link, it navigates to that link and shows correctly in the address bar.

For example: http://www.palemoon.org/faq.shtml#What_ ... th_Firefox

When you click the BACK button icon, it should go back to wherever you were before on the same page.
(including multiple such actions -- they should all be part of the history)

Instead it goes to the previous page in history.

I've never seen a browser act that way before. (Firefox, IE, Opera, Chrome)

If for some reason this is claimed non-buggy behavior, it REALLY needs to be changed to work
as I described. (and how it works in most other browsers)

It's VERY irritating, for example, on the above example page link, to "choose an item from a menu", and
not be able to click BACK to get back to the menu to choose another item.
That is, at least in part, why it traditionally works the way that Pale Moon does not.

I can't reproduce your bug.
Pale Moon goes back to the previous location on the same page if you press the back button, as intended.

I tested this with the exact same page: the Pale Moon FAQ page. Went to the page, clicked an anchor to jump to a specific section, which also placed the anchor in the URL in the address bar. Clicked the back button and it jumped back in history to the same page on the index where I left off. It all seems to work properly.

@Moonchild

I can't reproduce this either. Works exactly the same for me as it does for you with the same examples you used. I'm using 64 bit linux Pale Moon (24.7.2).
Linux Mint 21.3 (Virginia) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox
MX Linux 23.2 (Libretto) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox
Linux Debian 12.5 (Bookworm) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox

Nevermind.
Something weird is going on.
It's doing it in Firefox, too.
And IE and Opera were acting odd.
So it must be something with my computer.
Or possibly that page.
I haven't figured out what is going on.
Thanks.
