Batch file link updated - also put it on my main file hosting service for speed's sake (and no ads).

FDM made this rather "low key" announcement on their forum 10 days ago and even their Homepage "Latest News" column has yet to mention anything. Most Pale Moon users will probably have FDM 3.9 with Plugin version 1.5.7.4 installed and as this setup does NOT appear to update automatically FDM's "Good news!" will be easily missed!

Free Download Manager Firefox plugin

Hi, Good news!

There is no need to edit install.rdf file each time when Mozilla releases its new version of Firefox browser or wait for new FDM Release. Seems problems with firefox plugin are gone - our extension is fully reviewed by Mozilla team

Actually Firefox browser will update it automatically but for those users who have not been auto updated, plugin is available at: https://addons.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/a ... er-plugin/

P.s You can adjust plugin auto updating at Firefox->Add-ons->Extensions->Free Download Manager plugin Settings

Obviously this is excellent news for Pale Moon users too! These additional notes and explanations may be helpful:

1. FDM's original link above is to a Russian language Firefox Add-ons page. There is now an English language Firefox Add-on page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... er-plugin/ and Softpedia has the new FDM Plugin 1.5.7.5 too.

2. If you are running the current stable release of FDM 3.9 or FDM 3.9 Lite (both are "build 1249") you will have FDM Plugin version 1.5.7.4 currently installed in Add-ons Manager/Extensions. Experience suggests FDM Plugin version 1.5.7.4 DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE in Pale Moon (or Firefox) so you will need to update manually using FDM's link (or Softpedia) to obtain the new FDM Plugin version 1.5.7.5 which is compatible with PM and FF 15.
NOTE: The new plugin's "install.rdf" file's "maxVersion" number is set to 15.* although oddly FDM have stated in forum answers that build 1249 is already compatible with FF 16? :?

3. If you are using one of the more recent FDM BETA versions (latest FDM build available from "Download 3.9.1 BETA" heading & link here if interested) you should find that your FDM Plugin has already AUTOMATICALLY UPDATED to a slightly different new Plugin version 1.5.7.6 - NOT the same as new plugin version 1.5.7.5 on Firefox Add-on page/Softpedia above.
NOTE: If you have updated to the latest FDM 3.9.1 BETA build 1268 (released 03 Sep 2012) the plugin's "maxVersion" number will be set to 20.*.*

Hopefully from now on both of these new FDM Plugin versions will update automatically?

Apologies! I spoke too soon! With the move to Firefox 17.0 as the current Firefox stable release last week the FDM plugin situation has gone "pear shaped" again and it looks as if Mozilla Addons have "pulled" the FDM Plugin which is being blamed for crashing Firefox 17.0? See this post and links on FDM forum's "Firefox Plugin" thread: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/boar ... 172#p36148 and several following posts! :wtf:

BRIEF SUMMARY OF SITUATION

If you now download FDM 3.9/FDM 3.9 Lite (both Build 1249 and current "stable release" of FDM) available on FDM Homepage and try to install in Firefox and/or Pale Moon.... the FDM plugin does not automatically install. If you follow a link to the FDM Plugin Addons page it now shows FDM Plugin 1.5.6 which is way out-of-date and marked as "Not available" and "greyed out" for both PM 15.3 and FF 17.0 so it will not install anyway.

If FDM 3.9/Plugin 1.5.7.5 is your current setup (with or without Firefox) and it is working normally in Pale Moon 15.3 (and not crashing Firefox 17.0 as it wasn't with me) then you can just carry on as you are. (Note: If you want FDM Plugin 1.5.7.5 it is still available from Softpedia links in post above.)

If you are trying to install, reinstall or update your FDM setup then the simplest and easiest thing to do is to download the latest FDM 3.9.1 Beta (Build 1268 released 03 Sep 12) from "FDM 3.9.1 BETA" forum page: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/boar ... 85800fed3a (just click the "Download 3.9.1 BETA" line 7 in Alex's post at top of thread.) This is quite stable (I have run since release with no problems) and once downloaded installs normally into FF 17.0 and/or PM 15.3 (using either "Standalone" or "With Firefox" method) and automatically installs latest FDM Plugin 1.5.7.6 as described in original Tutorial. :)

Mozilla has recently cleared the latest FDM Plugin 1.5.7.6 and it is once again available direct from main AMO Addons page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefo ... er-plugin/ and via built-in Add-ons Manager update button.

Anyone running FDM 3.9/3.9 Lite (both build 1249) with Plugin 1.5.7.5 should immediately update to Plugin 1.5.7.6 (select "Check for Updates" option under Gearwheel symbol in Pale Moon Add-ons Manager). The old Plugin was obviously causing Pale Moon 15 to crash as well as Firefox 17, see report in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1775#p10353

Anyone installing, reinstalling or updating FDM itself will still find that the most straightforward option is to download the latest FDM 3.9.1 Beta (build 1268) via link in post above. This will install the latest Plugin 1.5.7.6 automatically. :)

It must be Christmas! :) A new stable release, FDM 3.9.2 (build 1281), became available on Boxing Day!
FDM's vaneo wrote:For all old FDM design fans, we've just released the new 3.9.2 version which can be downloaded from our official download page. You can install and try our new FDM 5.0 version without uninstalling the old one.

The FDM 3.9.2/3.9.2 Lite installers comes with a new Plugin 1.5.7.7 onboard and this installs into Pale Moon, using either the "with Firefox" or "Standalone" method, just as described in the original Tutorial post. :D

PS. Any brave soul with comments/problems Re: FDM 5.0 Alfa please start a new topic so as not to confuse this one! ;)

FDM PLUGIN COMPATIBILITY WITH PALE MOON 20.0.1

Note: If integrating FDM with Pale Moon for the first time, or if doing a full uninstall/fresh re-install of FDM, please follow the original Tutorial.

Pale Moon 20.0.1 will flag older FDM Plugins as "incompatible" during the Add-ons Compatibility check run at the end of the update sequence. The latest, compatible, FDM Plugin 1.5.7.9 is only available from "onboard" the two most recent FDM 3.9.2 programme installer packages. At present it is no longer possible to obtain new FDM Plugin updates separately from Mozilla Add-ons (AMO), Softpedia, or elsewhere - any versions still available are out-of-date.

CHECK INSTALLED FDM VERSION

  1. Check installed FDM version: See "About FDM" version and build information via FDM "Help" or "?" toolbar button. Is the latest FDM 3.9.2 (build 1303) released 27 Mar installed? (Note: If you have FDM 3.9.2 (build 1301) released 11 Mar this also has FDM Plugin 1.5.7.9 onboard and thus will work equally well with instructions below.)
  2. Download latest FDM version?: If required, download FDM 3.9.2 or 3.9.2 Lite (both build 1303) from FDM's official download page - then simply install "over the top" (OTT) of your present FDM installation. (OTT method: Ensure FDM is shut down - then click on new FDM 3.9.2 .exe installer package - update/installation sequence launches - clean-up "housekeeping" is included to remove out-of-date FDM components.)

UPDATE FDM PLUGIN IN PALE MOON - WITH FIREFOX SET-UP

  1. Confirm new FDM Plugin installed in Firefox: The automatic and "notified" manual update settings in FDM itself, or the OTT method above, will all update the FDM Plugin in Firefox (but not in Pale Moon). In FDM "Firefox" Monitoring should stay selected and in Firefox's Add-ons Manager the updated FDM Plugin should stay enabled.
  2. Remove old FDM Plugin from Pale Moon: In Pale Moon's Add-ons Manager locate the old FDM Plugin, click the "Remove" button and then select the "Restart now" option. Pale Moon will restart with no FDM Plugin present.
  3. Copy new 'fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org' file from Firefox: Start > Run > Type: %APPDATA% into Run dialog box > OK - App Data(Application Data) folder opens. Navigate to your Firefox Profiles folder at: Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default Open "extensions" folder and copy 'fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org' file. Close folder.
  4. Add new copy of 'fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org' file to Pale Moon: Start > Run > %APPDATA% > OK - App Data(Application Data) folder opens again. Navigate to your Pale Moon Profiles folder at: Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default Open "extensions" folder and paste in 'fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org' file. Close folder.
  5. Install new FDM Plugin into Pale Moon: Restart Pale Moon once again and the "Install Add-on" window opens requesting permission to install new FDM Plugin - tick "Allow Installation" box, click "Continue" button then the "Restart Pale Moon" button to finish.

UPDATE FDM PLUGIN IN PALE MOON - STAND-ALONE SET-UP

  1. Remove old FDM Plugin from Pale Moon: In Pale Moon's Add-ons Manager locate the old FDM Plugin, click the "Remove" button, and then select the "Restart now" option. Pale Moon will restart with no FDM Plugin present.
  2. Re-enable Monitoring in FDM: Start FDM and navigate to FDM > Settings > Downloads > Monitoring and re-tick the "Firefox" box. Click "OK" button to return to main FDM window. Close FDM. (or leave running as you prefer!)
  3. Install new FDM Plugin into Pale Moon: Restart Pale Moon once again and the "Install Add-on" window opens requesting permission to install new FDM Plugin - tick "Allow Installation" box, click "Continue" button then the "Restart Pale Moon" button to finish.

AUTOMATIC FDM PLUGIN UPDATES IN FUTURE?

With luck this might be the only time the above rigmarole is needed! The changelog for FDM 3.9.2 (build 1303) includes: [+] Auto update system for Firefox extension. Thus future FDM Plugins updates should be available via the normal Add-ons Manager update system (either automatic or manual, depending on chosen setting in browser Add-ons Manager "Gearwheel" drop-down menu) and hopefully this will work in Pale Moon too? We shall see! :)
