cache.disk ?

Postby theallseeing » Sun Jul 22, 2012 4:20 pm

is it possible?
adding following lines to about:config (or to x:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\prefs.js) makes no change :(
browser.cache.disk.enable;true
browser.cache.disk.parent_directory;Z:\mooncache

procmon shows no disk writes, guess everything is in ram
any solution?

browser.cache.disk.enable is by default true.
Maybe you disable this in the pale moon settings? Under extended -> network.

And look if your browser.cache.disk.parent_directory key is an string.

My pale moon save the cache to my folder, so it works

yep it is true by default and key is a string but it never writes to disk
w7x64 +uac off, palemoon 12.3-x64 (not portable)

hope to hear from moonchild

i guess something needs to be added to profiles.ini
like in firefox "CustomCacheDir=Z:\ffcache"

I even check my preferences. Maybe this help you:

Paste this code to your user.js:
user_pref("browser.cache.disk.parent_directory", "Z:\\mooncache");

\\ instead of \ is important. Else it dont works!

Also make sure the folder you are trying to use exists.

Don't forget the basics, if the page has something like:

Code: Select all
<META HTTP-EQUIV="CACHE-CONTROL" CONTENT="NO-CACHE">

The browser will not store the stuff inside that page in your disk cache, just on ram and then removed when you leave the page. There were some cache viewers add-ons that made more easy for see the cache in both ram and disk, I lost the clue of the add-on since I prefer explore the elements of the page for the images and it was discontinued. Something similar should be in the add-ons page.

Allright, the folder exists, prefs.js has double slash in the needed line, i opened about 80 different tabs for different sites in different places with different hosting providers and still no disk writes.
So maybe its a feature? Anyone experienced same trouble? Will try on clean windows later.

Do you try a clean pale moon profile?

And one other idea: Do you try the 32bit build?

And btw i have UAC on and i use windows as a user with restricted rights. So this dont block the caching.

Make sure you have set the disk cache capacity to a positive number (not -1 for automatically manage) or it will not work. A positive integer is Pale Moon's default, by the way.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.cache.disk.parent_directory

Caveats
The disk cache must be turned on for this preference to have an effect.
The disk cache’s capacity must be set to a positive integer for any files to be written to the specified directory.

Really?? PM doesn't automatically manage the disk cache??

Is this something Pale Moon specific? And what about the memory cache then?
