Easier actualizing for rss feed in bookmarks

Unread post by Supernova » 2014-04-07, 20:19

I have bookmarked 2 rss feed, that I check pretty often. I noticed that it don't always actualize the feed while left-clicking to see the content. I don't know if there are reasons for that, I can just guess that yes.
It wouldn't be a problem however if it was quick to actualize otherwise. But in the actual context menu opened by right-clicking, this option is at the bottom, nearly under all "generic options" which are less used (generic => you have the same on every bookmark or even in bookmark bar where there are no bookmarks)
So the suggestion is the following : just move the actualize option to the top of the context menu, as are "open" "open new tab" options for standard bookmarks. This should be quick & easy to do, and would change "click, move, click, move, click" to nearly "click click click" which is way more practical. I don't see any possible drawback for this change.
Thanks for your attention. :)

RSS bookmarks should refresh near instant when the site updates. That's the whole point of a feed, after all...

Which option exactly are you talking about? "Reload live bookmark"?

I guess it's reload live bookmark ; there is only one context menu action related to rss bookmarks.

And the refresh of RSS bookmarks is not instant, sadly. It sometimes do not update even after several minutes. However, using the refresh option, it always works.

Well, for RSS feeds, "several minutes" is instant. You have to realize that the browser does not continuously keep an open connection to check feeds. By default, live bookmarks update every 60 minutes (1 hour). You can set your own refresh rate with browser.bookmarks.livemark_refresh_seconds to e.g. 600 for every 10 minutes if you need it to happen more often. Excessive checking may slow down the browser if you have a lot of feeds, or get you blocked from certain feeds, so try not to use less than 5 minutes (300 seconds). Anything less than 60 seconds is ignored and treated as 60 as a hard cap.

As for the menu order, I'll have a look.
