Sync offline until further notice :(

Unread post by Moonchild » 2015-08-21, 21:46

Well, some really bad news, on the heels of my previous announcement.

The Pale Moon Sync server has suffered catastrophic file system corruption while attempting to solve performance issues.
I don't think any user account data was lost, but synced data will be unreliable and will have to be discarded. This means that when it's back up, you will have to re-sync your data to the server first before you can pull it down to your other devices/installations.

The sync server will be off-line until further notice as we don't have an estimate how long repairing this will take.

Sync server back online!

Unread post by Moonchild » 2015-08-22, 19:13

After some really fast and efficient work to salvage user data and reinstall the server from scratch, the Sync server is back on-line!

Important note:

Due to the file system corruption that had occurred, all the encrypted web-browser data had become unreliable and had to be removed (since there would be no way to verify if the data was actually correct or not).
This means your browser will, when reconnecting to the sync server the first time, re-sync and re-upload all data. Please be aware that, depending on your number of bookmarks, size of your history and number of add-ons (if you sync them), this may take some time and use some significant bandwidth.
Off-topic:
I absolutely hate SELinux. Whomever decided that that paranoid, system-invasive thing should be in all CentOS instances and restrictively enabled by default should be taken out back and done horrible things to. </rant>
