Pale Moon start page change

Unread post by Moonchild » 2015-01-28, 22:31

I'm excited to announce that the Pale Moon start page will soon be changing!
In cooperation with the people at start.me, the Pale Moon start page will be changed to a different layout (but with the same default choices), and it will be more of a start portal to get you going on the web.

Why this change?
  • A regularly requested feature has been to be able to customize the start page with links of your own. Once this start portal is fully functional, you will be able to do just that -- and quickly bookmark sites you visit to appear on the start page eventually, as well.
  • The current start page is focused primarily on the US market. With the added flexibility of the new portal, you can have the portal in your local language, and easily configure it to have locally relevant links.
  • Link grouping, rearranging, etc. Your start page, Your way!
  • Two modes of operation:
    1. Creating an account and logging in - this will allow you to take your customizations with you across devices. (this should be functional already)
    2. "Anonymous" - this will allow you to use and remember the customizations on your specific browser without an account. We are still working on getting this operational, but once done, it will allow you to customize and store the customization in a specific browser, locally, without having anything "in the cloud". Great for people who prefer strict privacy and account-less operation over cross-device convenience.
A preview is currently available from the start page to have a peek at what it will look like in a few weeks.
"Anonymous" mode is planned to become available at least in the first quarter of this year. Until then, you can continue using the current, pre-configured start page, similar to what is there now.
