[UPDATED] Note for Intel users + request for help

Unread post by Moonchild » 2014-06-07, 18:26

Important notice:

Some people using Intel chips (So far a report of HD3000 integrated and two as yet unknown models) have reported Pale Moon 24.6 crashing on startup. This is caused by an oddity in the overhauled graphics engine. I'm currently building a small update to the browser (24.6.1) with a workaround that will prevent these crashes, but could use your help: If you are using an Intel graphics chip (Either GMA or HD/Integrated) on Windows Vista, 7 or 8, I'd like to know if Pale Moon 24.6.0 runs for you without crashing - you can use the portable version as a test bed.

Please report (Either on the forum or via the Pale Moon website feedback form):
  • Your Intel graphics chip model (standalone, integrated, GMAxxx or HD xxxx)
  • The Model ID of your chip if known
  • Whether you experience crashes on startup of the browser or not
  • The output of the "graphics" section of Help -> Troubleshooting information in the browser
Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: The crashes have been pinpointed to a specific setting. If you are on Intel graphics, and you have previously set Azure for Content to false (for e.g. font problems), you MUST SET IT BACK TO TRUE (the default value) to avoid these crashes.

Set gfx.content.azure.enabled to true (Or use pale Moon Commander to do the same)

If you have already upgraded and are experiencing these crashes, reset your preferences to defaults:
  1. Hold SHIFT down when starting Pale Moon
  2. In the Safe mode/recovery dialog box, check "Reset all user preferences to Pale Moon defaults"
  3. Click "Save changes and restart"
